    Suddenly my site is popular!

    NiallAugust 26, 2008

Seems the older post on Planetshakers, where I commented on an article in the Herald Sun, is drawing attention when folk search for Mike G (not idea how to spell it an not goign to try) and Planetshakers.

All I am going to add to this is… prayer and refer folks to Mark Sayer’s commentary on this mess.

Reflections from a new Victorian drivers licence

    NiallAugust 13, 2008

Well, a couple of days ago my wife and I renewed our Victorian drivers licences. This gave thought and pause for reflection on a number of fronts. Do I mention that my wife was given a 25% discount for three years of exemplery driving with no tickets and fines! I didn’t mention the fact that I most of the driving! But, regardless I am proud of her and the discount!

Anyway, firstly it gave me pause to think about the past three years. Yeah, not long you might say but that was the last time I renewed my licence, or should I say that was when I changed back from a Queensland licence to a Victorian one - and the three years? Well it was cheaper than the ten years and at that time we were skint from the move back here! But that is besides the point (hey, I do have a tendency to become distracted!) - what gave me pause to think was about the period of three years. (more…)

Channel 7 sucks… ok, maybe crass, but they stuffed up bad! (Again and again!)

    NiallAugust 12, 2008

I am supporter of GetUp, the social action group that rallies Australians to get together and make a statement about many issues that the Government needs to pay attention too.

GetUp organised to air a commercial urging our Prime Minister to not be silent about Tibet. GetUp raised support to produce and screen the ad during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. The ad was professionally produced, airtime booked professionally etc, etc but….. it failed to air. Here’s what GetUp had to say about this. (more…)

    Empty Opulance

    NiallAugust 3, 2008

Wondered what to call this small piece. Settled for Empty Opulance as that were two words that spung to mind when viewing the images I am going to point you to look at now.

By USAmerican photograher Joe Johnston, the series is called MEGACHURCHES and can be found on his website.

Click through on the left, once the flash page has loaded, to PROJECTS then MEGACHURCHES and have a look at the many pics of USAmerican Megachurches - ok taken while they were empty, but still the vast opulance and offensive use of money is evident in EVERY picture. Have a good look and leave some comments here about it.

    Feast of the Refuse

    NiallJune 2, 2008

I have been involved with some work with the homeless and poor as I have mentioned earlier… Recently I became aware that some of the aid agencies and churches in the outer Eastern Area here in Melbourne have been handing out food, including meat that is past it’s expiry date. Now this may be ok for some products and something that may have just expired, but what makes me angry is the fact that it is meat and other goods like canned fish that are being handed out with clearly expired labels!

Not only is this revolting and dangerous to say the least considering that babies and children may be eating this meat etc, and that the organisations send a slip of paper with the hamper that recognises the food is out of date and that they hold no responsibility, but where do we get off deciding that just because they are getting welfare or aid they deserve anything of less quality than we would eat! I know many of these organisations and churches are on a shoe string but I would place a bet that the pastors or aid workers themselves would be laothe to touch some of the food that is handed out as welfare here.

This sickens me and makes me weep for the church! So much for inviting them to feast in Luke 14:15!

The aid organisations I am talking about - one was a church in Croydon and the other a para-church organisation - St Vincents De Paul! Come on people! We can sit in our million dollar buildings, with thoudands of dollars in AV equipment, take communion and sing songs to the words on the screen, yet feel it is ok to give someone who has less than us the crumbs, no not the crumbs, the waste from our excess consumption!

    failure=life

    NiallMay 30, 2008

This is an interesting video that explores some of the most influential people of the modern age and the fact that they… failed. (HT Bob Carlton)
