if you have any old books, of any nature, but particularly church based, I would love to have them! No Comments »I would appreciate your prayers and thoughts…
When I started the year and began to study the course I am doing, it was planned that Forge Victoria would continue to pay me half-a-day a week to do graphics and manage the website for Forge. But, for many reasons beyond my control, and I might add, very unhappily, I was told earlier that they could not afford to do so. The problem was, I had budgeted for the money, it was going to pay the college fees for the year!
So, I found myself not long into my course with no income. I applied for and now receive Austudy - the Aussie Gov’t’s financial, ahhh, “contribution” to help you through the course. This is of course for a full-time course and with a family. So, since then we have been getting by and I have been busy searching for a part-time job to help pay the bills and keep the wolf from the door!

I wrote the following one evening recently but have been unsure whether to publish it… tell me what you think.
In the course of my studies I have been researching homelessness and poverty in Australia, and in particular, Melbourne, and recently I had the great pleasure to go meet a lovely woman who works for the Salvation Army at a Crisis center here in Melbourne. After a tour of the fantastic facilities and meeting the others staff, we sat for a coffee and chat. A great hour and I was extremely thankful for the chat.
But, it further fueled my righteous anger to understand that local churches weren’t offering to help this crisis centre - something that we have found at The Dining Room (TDR). However, before I rant, I must say that there are some churches and schools in the area who are helping TDR, but let me emphasize - some out of many. We have some churches in the local area that are perched on acres of land, some with schools on the property and some without, and some with empty buildings and some that have a handful of people meeting in them.

More tomorrow when I am not so tired….
There is an urgent need for a center in Croydon, Melbourne with a full commercial kitchen and large dining area to service and serve the homeless, poor and lonely. This centre needs to be able to provide a place out of the elements, that churches and others can use each night to help ease the needs of these folk.
Anyone help? We need a place to call our own and the $ to make the dream a reality. Surely there are folk out there who have the resources for something like this, rather than financing a new church building somewhere?

No Comments »HUSH for Homelessness
Mission Australia are running this very cool event next month, HUSH for the Homeless, inviting us to experience what it’s like to be voiceless!They are challenging us all to experience what it is like to be voiceless, by not speaking for an hour (or more!) on Wednesday 2 July 2008, and to seek sponsorship for the silence!
Tonight, as temperatures drop and winter takes hold, almost 100,000 Australians have no place to call home. Of these people, almost 50% are yet to have their 25th birthday and 10,000 are children aged under 12! This is why Mission Australia is running HUSH for Homelessness; an event to raise money to assist homeless men, women and children across the country.
HUSH for Homelessness symbolises the ‘invisible’ and ‘voiceless’ lives that homeless Australians lead.
All donations raised will go to support the work that Mission Australia do around the country with the homeless, including the provision of crisis and transitional accomodation and support services.

UNOH are promoting this event this coming Saturday night (24th May) at 7pm in Melbourne city.
The venue is 333 Swanston Street (Cross Culture Church of Christ - Melbourne City Conference Centre, cnr Little Lonsdale)
Only $10 entry and all proceeds going towards the cyclone victims in Burma!
The more people who come to see these 5 top artists, the more money we raise for the POOREST of the POOR!
