This is an interesting video that explores some of the most influential people of the modern age and the fact that they… failed. (HT Bob Carlton)

Tell Kev we don’t want the Cluster Bombs

    NiallMay 28, 2008

AVAAZ.org - a group that I am part of is working on a campaign to educate and encourage the Australian Government to join the countries banning the cluster bombs and cancel the order the Aussie Government has for these weapons. Avaaz are inviting folk to enter their details which then becomes a personalised message for Kevin Rudd about the negotiations.

I urge all Aussies and those elsewhere to join with Avaaz in shouting out about this matter. So far 55,911 have sent messages. Help us get to 75,000!

Death - What a Wonderful way to explain it!

    Niall

A good mate of mine from a group I used to hang with in Brisbane, called the Roaring Lambs, just sent me this short story in an email. While a little simple and maybe sentimental - I liked the message more than the story. Thanks Kev! Wish I could be there with you guys!

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, ‘Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side.’

Very quietly, the doctor said, ‘I don’t know.’

‘You don’t know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?’

    Don’t aim - Just Rain.

    NiallMay 25, 2008

I was reading the comments on a Facebook Group about a new book due to come out soon called “SIN BOLDLY: A Field Guide for Grace” by Cathleen Falsani in which she invites people to comment about their experiences of Grace. One comment in particular captured my heart by a guy called Larry.

And then my wandering mind goes to Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount where he said it rains on the just and the unjust.

I’m a dope, I want to save my nurture for people I think are deserving. Jesus, meanwhile, says to give your love like a dumb cloud. Don’t aim… just rain.

I know for me - it took someone showing Grace to me for the word to really become more than a word that we talk about. I knew about Grace from growing up in the church but it was a mate of mine who showed me Grace - and now I feel I understand it more and more - in fact I don’t think I will ever really fully comprehend the Grace that Jesus talks about but for my time here on this planet I can show Grace, and in Larry’s words I won’t aim - I’ll rain Grace over everyone.

I look forward to reading Cathleen’s book too!

When did you learn about Grace - and not just the Sunday School or theological definition, I mean understand what it means in your life and heart?

    Mark Sayers in blogland

    NiallMay 22, 2008

Mark Sayers, a mate and man of God whom I admire and respect, has started blogging again after an absence of many months. Mark is well known for his particiaption in the Red Network, but even more so for his book and DVD “The Trouble with Paris”, and his ministry with the UBER Ministries.

Recently Mark wrote something that I totally resonated with. In his post, “The Politcal Incorrectness of a Non-Judgmental God“, Mark writes,

    Compassion Bloggers

    Niall

I have just signed up with Compassion Bloggers, to be part of the effort to spread some of the news and efforts of Compassion International. Shaun Groves whom I wrote about in a previous post, works part-time with Compassion International and runs Compassion Bloggers. Shaun writes on his shlog:

Every month I’ll be sending out an e-mail (to folks who sign-up for it) asking bloggers to post about a specific Compassion-related need. Last month, for example, it was a campaign to buy malaria nets. Thousands of dollars were raised through the efforts of bloggers so that thousands of kids can now sleep without being bitten by a malaria-ridden mosquito. That’s thousands of kids released from disease.

I’m calling these little e-mailed thingies “assignments”, but think of them as “missions” or “directives” or “stuff to blog about when you’re out of stuff to blog about” if that’s better for you. No matter what they’re called, they’re important in mobilizing bloggers to use their words and their corner of the blogosphere to make real changes in the developing world.

And another thing. If you blog for Compassion like this on a monthly basis, I’ll send you a little bitty badge thingy you can put in the sidebar of your blog that simply says “I’m A Compassion Blogger.” That’s coming soon.

I would encourage you to sign up and add just one post a month on your own blog to Compassion and the work they are doing.

    Enough…

    NiallJanuary 19, 2008

Ok this is is it. I toyed around with a blog earlier here and then with Apple’s iWeb app (part of iLife ‘08), created www.nealtaylor.net (still annoyed I can’t get the .com!) using iWeb but while it was good, it didn’t feel right! I’ll be moving some of the posts over here eventually but or now this is the first post! Please don’t dismiss this yet! I do plan to make regular posts and try to get some of my thoughts, ideas and observations down for others to discuss, as well as share what I am reading and growing with.

What Shoots Adrenalin into your Soul?

    NiallOctober 16, 2007

Christine Sine over at her blog GodSpace recently posted this clip and asked what made Adrenalin pump in your soul - the Me Church featured in the clip or the words of Paul in Hebrews 12.

“Do you see what this means - all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running - and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished the race we’re in. Study how he did it, Because he never lost sight of where he was headed - that exhilarating finish in and with God - he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he ploughed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!”
