I have for many years had a heart to serve the community and become involved with the families and needs of our local community. I did investigate doing a degree some years ago such as Social Work, but this would have taken a couple of years and at the time was impossible to do with a growing family.
You may or may not know that I have been working for Forge Victoria for the past twelve or so months as the Operations Manager and Marketing Manager. The role of Operations Manager was a temporary one and is due to end with the Forge Grassroots Festival in April. After that time i will continue to work for Forge part-time managing the Marketing materials as well as the website and producing materials. So it was with a lot of prayer and thought that I began 2008 with no clear idea of what I was going to persue for the year, until an ad ijn the local paper caught my eye. I initially rejected it but kept seeing it and after much prayer and prompting from my Dad, I rang and finally enrolled.
As part of my goals for working the local community, I have enrolled in a Diploma of Community Welfare/Mt. Louisa Counseling Course. This is a twelve month course that takes the Swinburn equivalent of 2 years and 400 placement hours into 12 months and 250 placement hours.
I have been really blessed to receive a placement with a brother in Christ, David Knoop, who is part of Connections Community Church in Croydon, and runs The Dining Room - a safe place for the homeless and poor in Croydon once a week. I must admit that I believe God has been involved from the start, pricking my conscious, to discovering the ad in the paper for the course and discovering that my lecturer is also a sister from Connections, to my placement with this remarkable man of God.
My course is putting me in touch with the world’s needs in this area as well as many of the local brethren who are also serving in the area.
So, I would like to petition you all to pray for my family and my work in the course, and for the myriad of people in need that I am encountering. In addition, I have set up a support page on my blog, where I am hoping to get a minimum of 30 people supporting me for $10 a month over the next 12 months. My course is not free and not covered by Commonwealth Fee help and is $3900 (I have also been granted a 10% discount), of which the first $1000 has been paid as a deposit and the balance due as part payments each month roughly $290 each montht. I am hoping to also work full-time with the course and my placement and if I can raise more funds each month, a minimum of $1000 a month, 100 people at $10 a month, I will not need to seek other employment for the year. Or, if someone if offering, I am prepared to work part-time after hours if needed. I will be providing updates about the course and studies via my blog here at www.nialltaylor.com
Please consider supporting my studies and ministry this year, for as little as $10 a month for twelve months.
If you have any questions, or want to discuss this with me, please feel free to email myself or if you have my number, call.
Shalom!
Neal Taylor
